One year ago today I was walking down 6th Avenue to Bryant Park. I had just spent 10 days in a hotel room amid a gorgeous New York autumn working on a huge project and wanted to take at least one carefree walk before catching my flight later that afternoon. I was mid cross walk when I head a snap and looked up. It seemed a huge piece of cardboard was wafting down on my and at the same time I realized it was a giant glass side of a skyscraper a voice in my head yelled run and I shouted “Run” and run me and other manhattenties did into oncoming traffic as glass and boards and nails shattered down around us. As I ran all I could think of was that I had just spent 10 days away from my kids stuck in a hotel room and hadn’t finsihed my book and if this was it then I was really bummed. I ran in heels and a suit and it was like I was in a time warp tunnel looking neither right or left just concerned about myself and getting out from under the hostile rain. I vaguly registered shocked faces of drivers as I ran past their cars being showered by debry. I thought this is it? My life ends like this under shattered glass on 6th avenue? I landed under an over hang in a parking garage. A guy who had been in the cross walk pulled me and said, hey you saved us! Thanks for shouting run! I vowed then, having lived that my life would not continue in the same fashion and by January I was a WAHM (work at home mom) and by April I had written 24 Hours to Zero Down Marketing by August two more guides and by September most were launched. I have not been back to New York, My life has changed and my focus in more online and duplicatable. I can work from Ireland, California or in my jammies in the hammock. I know my kids better, I know myself better and only my husband misses the money — but I know him better too. The dogs sleep at my feet while I work and I make dinner for my family most every night. I took up tennis, water color, Irish Wolfhound breeding and Scuba. One year later life is different and in January I will launch my dream book Women Buy Everything — how the hot pink crashed the glass ceiling! If I had been in New York today and the glass window had crashed on me and I had had to run what would I have thought? I would have thought hey my life is better than it was last year and I really want to live! 1 year later my life is my own and though it is fraught with challenges I hadn’t before yet the opportunities are amazing! I like it when trauma changes life for good, it warms the cockles of my heart, I am glad I listened when the voice yelled run! Run! Change your life! All in all a very good year for the right reasons.

My 14 year old daughters view on the economy
The other day I was driving my daughter to somewhere for something — she is 14 you know how it is. Tough stuff in the news! My daughter who I thought was listening on her earphones to her Ipod leans forward and says — after hearing the news about the very bad day on Wall Street – “Mom, I love what you do, you can help these businesses sell even in tough times . . . because these are tough times but people do need to sell right, buying and selling and business will continue right? And people need a plan to market and sell even in these tough times, right? Especially in these tough times, right? You offer that right? Everything is going to be all right, right?” We talked for a bit, she is right though. Everything is going to be alright! People will need to keep buying and selling, we my have to pause and take a breather but consumerism will continue. Now more than ever businesss people need a plan. I advocate the Three Steps to Success. 1. belief or passion = product or service. 2. Plan or strategy — so you know who and how you are selling marketing. 3. action = sales — implement the plan.
